Guinness, Argyle and Velvet

Makes me want to curl up with a pint in front of a fire... in a pub across the pond.
What a fine looking family.

But very well worth it.

No on 1

No on question 1- Portland Press Herald <-- article

Erin is Famous!

Anthropologie display diva Erin has a bit of well deserved notoriety after making some amazing paper flower arrangements for the Design*Sponge nuptials.

Even Martha Stewart took notice!!

Well done Erin!

Pottery

In the midst of moving :::again::: I can't imagine packing any more kitchen items, though I do fancy these ceramics by Marianne Hallberg. It's like the pricey but classic Burleigh Ware my mum loves, with a modern edge.

Real Simple Closet Makeover

From the 3 ways to transform a closet, I've fallen in love with some wallpaper...
Start with a boring closet:
Add $1000 worth of wallpaper and voila!:

I love the photos of this big open space broken up by those blocks of cubbies I've seen used to transform spaces of all shapes and sizes. I also like the white and beige backdrop with smaller pops of color. Love it.

Portland Eats in the News

A little proud of the food culture here? Nope- I'm just happy to be around people who like to eat as much as I do...

Antony Gormley in Liverpool

On a recent trip to England I took no photos of any family. Or of London. Or friends.
But I did take on pic of a jellyfish that washed ashore in Liverpool at Crosby Beach.
Also, I took a few photos of Antony Gormley's eerie cast-iron figures which seem to be walking out to sea...

Duck Fat

speaking of great Portland restaurants, I'll be dangerously close to Duck Fat... the amazing french fries ("Belgian Fries") are... wait for it... fried in duck fat.  They have a simple menu and a small seating area, but the wait is worth it.

Oh, and the beignets.  Fancy donuts.  Another amazing fried indulgence.

Five Fifty-five

I'll be living above 555, an adorable restaurant in downtown Portland.  Maybe I can make friends with the bartender!

And a City's top 101 restaurant
The chef (my land lord) was named one of Food and Wine magazine's Hot Chef's of 2007!
Sounds delicious

The White Company, London.
My wallet is thankful its not stateside.  I would have the most comfortable bed ever.
Super simple, refined linens.  Not cheap but unlike anything I've seen around here.  Really understated yet luxurious.
